CRUISE THE SMOKIES IV, GATLINBURG, TN, MAY 13-15, 2005 Kick off Friday night cookout in the garden at the Homestead House (formerly Open Hearth Hotel). Saturday morning enjoy the hot breakfast buffet at the hotel followed by cruising 45 miles to Bryson City, NC. In Bryson City we will board the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad on the Nantahala Gorge 4.5 hours scenic train journey. Highlights include the Horseshoe Curve, Fontana Lake Trestle, Tennessee River, and the Nantahala River Gorge. Beer and wine can be purchased on the train in the Club Car, and lunch can be purchased on the train in Slow Joe’s Café. More information is available on their webpage at www.gsmr.com/. I am working on getting a group rate so I will post the price of the train excursion and cutoff date for reservations later. Make your hotel reservations at the Homestead House by calling 1-800-233-4663, and mention you are with the PT Cruiser Group. (This is the same hotel we used the last 3 years). The room rates are $60 per night and this includes the hot breakfast buffet. The block of rooms will be held until April 13, 2005. Information on the hotel and directions can be found on their webpage openhearthhotel.com/. If you intend on coming to the cookout on Friday night, the charge is $15 per person which will cover the food, tax and tip, and is payable to Becky Allen, 302 Springfield Drive, Bristol, TN 37620, received no later than April 13, 2005. There will be NO extensions or exceptions made to the cutoff date. This is the only way that I can get an accurate head count to give the hotel. Please email me at rallen9133@chartertn.net if you would like to join us!

Kathy and I will be attending too.
Becky, is the train excursion the one using the STEAM engine? Steam engines are the best.

Kathy and I will be attending too. Becky, is the train excursion the one using the STEAM engine? Steam engines are the best. Sorry to say that they are not running the steam engines this year.... everything will be diesel. But as you can see below in the update that was mailed out to everybody, I did reserve an "open air car" for our excursion. If you go to their website, you'll see on their photo page the diesel engine train and the open air car we'll be taking. Ok.... here's the update for Cruise The Smokies IV as it stands right now: _______________ The planning for Cruise the Smokies IV is coming right along! We currently have 13 states represented: TN, VA, NC, SC, GA, AL, IL, NY, NJ, OH, TX, CA and WA! Here's an update to what's going on: Host Hotel - The Open Hearth Hotel (soon to be Homestead House):[/u] The contract has been signed for a block of 35 rooms at a rate of $60.00 per night. Call 1-800-233-4663 to make your reservations and be sure to tell them you're with the PT Cruisers or you will be informed there are NO rooms available.[/b] There is a convention going on at the hotel that weekend so once those 35 rooms are gone I'll have to find another hotel. By the way..... they're going fast! Friday Night Cookout - Catered by the Open Hearth Restaurant:[/u] The contract has been signed and a $50.00 deposit made for the cookout. The cost is $15.00 per person which will cover food, tax and tip, and must be paid to Becky Allen, 302 Springfield Drive, Bristol, TN 37620, no later than April 13, 2005.[/b] I have to give the restaurant a headcount and payment for cookout on April 30, 2005 so there is no extension to this cutoff date. Great Smoky Mountains Railroad - Nantahala Gorge 4.5 Hour Train Excursion:[/u] An Open Air Car has been reserved for Saturday, May 14, 2005 and a $250.00 deposit has been made. The train leaves Bryson City, NC at 10:30 and we must be there by 10:00. The group rate for the train is $30.60 for Adults; $14.40 for Kids 3-12; and Free for Kids 0-2. If you intend on doing the train excursion you must make your reservations and payment to Becky Allen, 302 Springfield Drive, Bristol, TN 37620, no later than April 13, 2005.[/b] Please specify number of adults 13-up, kids 3-12, and kids 0-2. I have to present the railroad with a total headcount of each and payment for the group on April 30, 2005 so there is no extension to this cutoff date. I stated in my earlier email that beer and wine can be purchased on the train in the Club Car but I found out today that it will cost an additional $20 per adult if you wish to sit in the Club Car. Sorry! I think I can wait til we get back to Gatlinburg! LOL! The train also has a cafe that serves lunch but I think they're a little pricey! We are allowed to bring our own lunch which is what I recommend we do. There is an hour layover (between 1:00 and 2:00) at the Nantahala Gorge with an observation area, picnic area and snack bar where we can eat lunch. Alcoholic beverages cannot be brought onto the train (only allowed in Club Car... see above). Pets are not allowed on the train. Ok, I think that's where I'm at right now. Now I need to get going with the dash plaques! I hope to hear from everybody soon! This is going to be a fantastic cruise!
