Bringing up an old thread, but I had my 2005 PT in for a tune up, brakes which BTW needed new rotors, coolant flush, transmission fluid change and oil and filter. Got me for $900.00 I did ask the price on changing the timing belt and the dealer quoted me $800.00 The good thing I can say is I never had any trouble at all with my PT. I have 63,000 miles on it now, but after spending $900.00 I am not looking forward to spending another $800.00. Talk about sticker shock, well repair shock is just as bad.

Not sure if a time line is on the timing belt but I know mileage wise, you're not due yet. I believe they say closer to 90k miles. As far as price, here in Charlotte I had quotes from $950 to $1400. Two different Chrysler dealers, one was $1100 the other $1390. So really the $800 doesn't sound so bad, I wound up finding an independent shop in Denver NC do it for a little less than $800.

Thanks Rick, so it seems like Rick Hendrick Chrysler is a good price for $800.00 Did you change your belt before it broke? The dealer told me 90,000 is about as far as they will go before snapping. I'd rather change it early then have to be towed.

I second what Rick said even though I hate to admit it. (ha) The price you were charged is a LOT better than what I have been quoted or heard. I don't need mine done yet but it is better to get things lined up ahead of time. Coolvanilla where are some pics???

I've heard of people not getting it fixed until over 120k miles. I had mine done around 102k. Mine had not broken. Of course the water pump replacement is factored in that cost and you should insist it being replaced at the same time even if it's not giving you any trouble. Same labor costs to replace the water pump as it is the timing belt. So while they're in there, do it. And that goes for the other belts as well, a/c etc.
Funny how we're talking about an $800 belt replacement as being reasonable. Years ago I bought a '72 Volvo coupe with 130k miles on it for $800 and drove it for 2 years. A/c worked, stereo, automatic, not a bit of trouble.

Nothing like a $800.00 bargain. LOL I have 63,000 miles on it now and don't drive it much. I just replaced the OEM battery and that almost went 7 years. When I purchased it I took out the Mopar 7 year 85,000 miles warranty and since it will run out before 85,000 I decided to read it and covered was the timing belt, water pump, etc. I wonder if Chrysler is going to offer me another warranty before this one expires in March.

Bargains: I could have bought a 57 Chevy, BelAire, 2 Door, 327 FOR $1800.00. Those were the days.

Many of us probably have lots of stories of either what we had or what we could have bought cheap.
I was 14 and Dad wouldn't let me buy a, I think it was a 1954 or 1955 Mercury coupe equivilent of the Crown Victoria. Had the chrome strip across the roof and the front half of the roof was body colored transparent plexiglass from the factory. Only a few were made. Since I was only 14 and two years away from my drivers license and he was going to have to loan me the """$75.00""" for the car, he said no.
