Would like to here of any more no-cost or low-cost mods that can be done. If you have them please post them here.
I know that you can buy the covers that goes on ac vent knobs and have heard of some using some type of cover that you can get from Lowes or Home Depot in the screws and fasteners department. I think they are stainless steel type that are really supposed to be used as hole plugs. They are the button top type with exapanable legs on them.
Anybody had any experience with them or other type of covers like this?

The only other cheap mod that I know of applies to the turbo cars only. You can build a manual boost controller out of parts from a hardware store or buy one of several flavors from folks on the web for $50 or less.
You can use this to manually set your turbo boost to a set level when adjusted properly. On my car I want to try out installing one of these between the turbo compressor outlet and the factory boost solenoid. This would allow me to use the factory solenoid to manage the upper levels of boost but I would be able to keep the boost up at other times when the computer wouln't be supplying as much boost. This would mean boost coming up quicker and getting up to the factory set parameters and staying there. It would also allow more boost at higher revs because (I think) the computer backs off the boost at higher revs to keep the torque to the tranny at more friendly levels during shifts for reliability reasons.
Of course, when using devices such as this, you are taking some of the safety of the engine into your own hands.
Later,
Brian

I have seen and I cant remember where it was at but you can buy inserts that go into the cupholders and the small holder beside the handbrakeprobably could even use it for the front areas on the door storage bins .They were available in different colors but they wanted an outrageous price for them.
I have found that at Wal Mart or craft stores you can buy the thin foam craft sheets. All we would need is a good pattern for these areas and we could make our own inserts. You can get these thin foam sheets i a variety of colors to accent your interior such as red white blue all kinds of colors.
This material is thin enuff to work with yet still give a great apperance in your PT. You can also get it in thicker sizes too. This stuff is really cheap and it would look fantastic.
I have some of this in black but cant get a good pattern to make these. But the ones I have tried look pretty good.
If anyone has the store bought items and would be willing to trace them out and send a copy that would be great!

There was a fellow over at ptenthusiasts.org/forum that went by Ratdaddy, and posted a ton of "penny mods". Might want to do a search over there...

If you are going to be at Siler City or AutoFair, I'll show you some of the "cheap" mods that I did. Some I copied from ratdaddy and some are almost original. And yes, Tom, I painted every last one of them.

I just bought some of those foam sheets on Wal-Mart yesterday. They were $ .33 a sheet. They are 9" x 12" and 2mm thick. When we got "PatrioT", it already had the Billett inserts for the console. The previous owner had used them and they are all scratched up. We are going to have them rechromed and I am planning on cutting out patterns and using these foam sheets over top of the billet inserts. They will be easy to remove for shows and events - but at other times they can protect the chrome. I'll let you know how this works. I can make extra patterns. We are planning on going to Siler City and "Tool Time".
