help with slave cyl problem

I have a problem with the clutch slave cylinder on my 2007 GT. I think it pretty much gave out on the way home from Virginia yesterday. As long as I'm at low RPM/slow speed, I can shift but somewhat difficult. Anyway, to make a long story short, I replaced the clutch when the engine was rebuilt a couple of years ago. I ordered clutch kit which included a new slave cylinder. However, the mechanic said it wouldn't work. He gave me the one that came out of the car (factory original) and the one that came with the kit. There is a distinct difference. The photo shows both side by side. The original one on the left and new one on the right.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem and/or will this new slave cylinder actually work on my car?
