Is it a good move to change to Synthetic oil in the 2.4 engine with 74,000 miles on it, or should I stay with conventional oil?

Every person that may answer could possibly have a different oppinion. Here's mine: It's never too late. I've used Mobil 1 in every car I've had since the stuff hit the market. And (knock on wood) have never had an internal engine issue. When I bought an old Buick many years ago from a co-worker that had 92,000 miles on it, I switched to Mobil 1. Sold the car to someone else at 172,000 miles. On my PT that I bought new in 2000, at 600 miles I switched over to Mobile 1. it does cost more. They say you can go 8000 to 10,000 miles between oil changes. I never let mine go past 5500.

I have read complaints about the 2.4L engine in the PT's using oil. Some say they drop a qt. in less than 3K miles, some even more. Anyone had this problem?

Got my PT in Oct 2000 and have about 107,000 miles on it. Haven't put a lot of miles on it in the past 3.5 years, it stays in the garage. However, no oil use here. Ever.
