OK car gurus....got a couple questions if you can help.
First - A couple weeks ago coming home from a show, less than a half a mile from the house the oil light came on. Went on to the house with it blinking and an occasional ding. Let it cool down and checked the oil. Plenty there. Hoping it wasn't the oil pump.
Second - Not sure if a OBD reader would give any codes for this. Borrowed one, hooked it up, no codes appeared. it just keeps scrolling the name of the manufacturer across the screen. Not sure I was using it right, think so.
I've cranked the car several times and let it run. No lights. No dinging. Oil levels almost perfect. No error codes if I was using it right. Could it have just been one of those flukes? Would an error code show up if the oil pump wasn't working? It was a fairly warm day and I drove it fairly hard on the way home. Any thoughts on the matter, any suggestions?

Did you do the key turn on the car to see code on odometer? It sounds maybe a the sending unit which is somewhat common on our beloved Pt's. if you do get a code allpar.com has a breakdown of what they all mean.

Rick we have had a few in the shop where the oil pressure sending unit is bad but no codes it seems to be a thing on the PTs

So the code comes up on the odometer and not the ODB reader? I was watching it and not the odometer. And yeah, cranked the car up several times.

Mine never threw a code, didn't try an OBD reader. Just the oil pressure light...

Rick you can do the "key dance" to get codes to display on the odometer. With the car in park and engine off, turn the key from off to on 3 times and leave it on the third time. (ON, not Start) the codes should display in the odometer followed by "dONE". If it is the oil pressure sending unit, you will probably see something like: "P052X"
P0520 Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit Malfunction P0521 Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit Range/Performance P0522 Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit Low Voltage P0523 Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit High Voltage

Or use a Scan Gauge like I have. Works better the the OBD Reader IMO. I have one that stays in Flames.
