I stopped for some parts at a local parts place. When I went to leave I started the car the same as always. It fired up and I put backed out of the parking place. I put it in drive and moved about 5 feet. It shut down as if I had turned the key off. I cranked it and it would not start. It acted like it was going to start but it would not. I checked the gas gage to make sure I wasn't out of gas and sure enough I wasn't. It almost acted like the older cars when they had jumped time. Like I said it acted like it wanted to start. I went home and got some gas to see if I could get it started. I removed the air filter and sprayed some in the tube going to the throttle body. It started and ran for just a second or two. I gave it another shot and it ran at an idle. If you stepped on the gas it would hesitate but it ran, so I nursed it home and checked everything out that I could. When it starts it is not on the first crank, you have to try it two or three times before it starts. It idles fine but stumbles when you step on the gas. At first I thought it might be a fuel related problem, like a fuel pump or filter. I checked on the price for a pump, $220.00 and I could be wrong, fuel filters are not serviceable because they are apart of the fuel pump. No check engine lights, and I have no way to check the fuel pump pressure. I thought it might be the MAP sensor but again the turbos are not like the others, so I could not swap it out with the one in my wife's car. I'm open to all ideas if anyone has any. Thanks

Sounds like it might be a Cam Position Sensor being intermittent.

I thought I should elaborate a little. When the map sensor went bad on my car. Sometimes it would run fine, then sometimes it would have almost no power and wouldn't rev above 4k rpm.

Wouldn't rev above 4k in drive? If you are in neutral, the car won't rev past 4k due to the rev limiter.

The 5 speeds probably have the rev limiter too right?

Dean,
Sounds like a fuel pump. After we sold our GT PT cruiser to our daughter-in-law she had this problem which sound like your's. Try to pound on the fuel tank near the pump and it will start and run for a short time then shut off. If this happens it is a fuel pump.

what code did you get?

The only code I got was the p0522 oil sensor. I had a friend come by and we ran a fuel pressure test on it and it's the fuel pump. You can hear the pump running but low fuel pressure. Even with all of the new stuff they have put on these cars they still act the way when things go wrong. Old fuel pumps would do the same thing. No fuel no run. Thanks all for your help.

The 5 speed doesnt have a rev limiter, atleast in my 2002 touring it doesnt...
Glad you fixed the issue. I try to never let me gas take hit half a tank just to make sure ky pt wont have to suck hard for gas haha

Sorry you ran in to trouble with it Dean, hope you got it fixed. Saw on another thread that Dolan is looking at a GT, or at least checking one out.
