In regards to 2005 converts and possibly others . . . .
Got the below email today with this info you may need to store away for future use. Could apply to other PT's as well:
"My name is Mike G***** and I live outside of Tampa and own a 2005 Cruiser Convertible. Last week, I removed the battery cables for cleaning and after hooking them back up, all of the windows and top would not work. I charged the battery and then just the passenger side worked. I had a new battery installed and then the drivers side and the top worked but not the passenger side.
I took the car to a chrysler dealer and after long discussions with the service advisor and mechanic, they were adament that I needed a new passenger side regulator/smart glass module and the passenger window switch cluster and highly recommended the drivers door regulator/smart glass module, as well, as they interfaced. They advised that the modules are on a nationwide back order list and ordered the parts. Total estimated repair cost $900.00.
I came home and after hours on the internet I luckily found a Chrysler Technical Servive Bulletion from November 2004 that specifically detailed this problem and provided steps to "reprogram" the modules. I accomplished this 3 step "reprogramming" in less than an hour at no cost.
This problem initially stems from a dead or discharged battery and my concern is that other owners have experienced this problem and had it fixed by a dealer with replacement parts that were not needed at a obscene price.
Please share with your members if you feel it is appropriate. If
members had it fixed, please have them contact me with repair details.
Keep on cruising!!"[/i]
