My 2001 Inferno has been overheating bad for the last two weeks, I replaced the Thermostat and have had it pressure checked. They think I have a leaking head gasket. Now it wont start, and after pulling a spark plug water shot out of the hole. I have owned this car since 2001, and have 170K on it. So do I try to have the head gasket replaced, or get a rebuilt motor, or a junk motor. Has anyone used a guy in Kannapolis,NC for motors or parts? I found him on Graigslist. Down to one car, Thanks

Not aware of anyone in Kannapolis with engines & parts for PT's. Who is it? Their name? Could be a source for many of us as our PT's climb up in miles.
I've had my 2001 since 2000 and it has about 104,000 on it. Still need to get the timing belt done, I've been a real slacker. Just trying to find someone near that's good, honest and doesn't charge premium prices.
BTW, welcome to the forums.

West Lake Auto....... up here is reasonable and Honest. I've got to get a quote for mine here soon so I'll let you know.
On the used engine, have heard about the guy on Craigslist, nothing bad. Might need the name of the place Brandy has in Ellenboro to compare prices.

If water came out the spark plug hole, DO NOT try to start it anymore. Engine is in 'hydrolock' because you have a head gasket blown (hopefully not something worse). If you try to turn it over with water in the cylinders you will do some real damage, especially to the bottom end. Remember, water does not compress and if you try to start it, whatever else is in there will try to compress and it will squash the bearings on the rods. Hopefully this has not happened. If it may be a while before you can get it to a shop, I'd drain the radiator and block and then pull all 4 spark plugs out and crank it over till you blow out the water, then pour some Marvel Mystery oil down each plug hole, crank it over once or twice and put some more oil in the cylinders to prevent rusting of the cylinder bores until you can get it to a shop. Put the plugs back in just a few threads to keep other carp out.

Check over in the "General Discussion" forum. A member just lost a PT in a ditch and it has gone to "the junkyard" per the posting. Maybe an engine is available.......
