So, some friends of mine and I are thinking that we really need to get radical with my PT and do a serious mod. What do you think of this?  Friend 1 found wrecked PT in junkyard, front end bashed in and engine demolished, same exact color as mine. Cut, weld, strengthen, paint, done! |

After all the extra metal, glass, bracing...it should be as slow as a slug even with a turbo.
Before the factory convertible came out, there was a company making convertibles out of the 4 -door. Have seen a few. Car & Driver did a one page test of one. They were about as complimentary of it as they were with a Yugo. More squeeks, rattles a body twisting than anything they've ever driven.
But it would definitely be unique.

What a job that would be! Every brakeline, wiring harness, exhaust pipe fuel line would have to be lengthened...

Looks like a great idea Robin, but I have to agree with the others it would be quit a undertaking to get the project done, but it could be done if you had enough time and funding.
