While returning from a trip, this week the speedometer lights on the dash went out. Not the entire dial just the part that illuminates the 40 - 60 mph range. Any ideas? I would think that it would be all or nothing not just a partial lighting problem. This is a 2004, limited with turbo with 80,000 miles. [When this happened to another non-Chrylser vehicle I owned, they wanted 800 dollars to fix it.] We had to put on a new A/C condenser the day before leaving for the trip so I hope this isn't the start of a bunch of repair issues. You should be able to replace the burned out bulb yourself, but it's not trivial to get the cluster out.
You need to remove the A pillar covers, the dash cover, the gauge cluster bezel and then remove the gauge assembly. Try not to invert the gauge cluster for long. It has dampening fluid in it. Simply twist the socket for the burned out bulb and replace. Just make sure you identify which bulb is burned out before you pull it all apart. No single thing is that hard to do, but it's a lot of pieces to pull off to get to the bulbs.
Good luck!

Seems to be a pattern here, the 0-40mph are of mine just died the other day Seems to be more trouble than it's worth though....

Sounds like we need to have another Tool Time, as soon as it gets cool again.

James: A tool time would be consumed with the dash light replacement. Very involved; but. I'm game. We can do it at my house. I agree about the cool though!!

I think you could get the gauges out in about 20min. replace the bulb and reverse the process. It's not too hard. I've had my gauges completely out before. Didn't take long to get them out.

OK Tony and everyone else, why make me be the one who asks about this problem? Here I was searching and searching for answers and others had the problem but were living with it. Fixing it sure beats memorizing the position of the handfs on the dial for night time driving (smile).
Seriously, Brian and all, thanks for the info. I'll have my Technical Advisor take care of this as soon as he get's tired of my nagging. I'm sure glad it wasn't another computer problem.
Looking forward to seeing some of you at Motor Madness this weekend. Lennell

Lennell I knew if I waited long enough someone would ask. I was pretty sure what had to be done, just putting it off as long as I could. Fortunately my "Gertrude" has a speed reading so I am able to drive at night using hers (ok guys, Gertrude is my GPS) Let me know about this tool time event, maybe we could set up an assembly line to get them done. I'm game.

Don't feel bad Tony thats what I do too. Ever since I changed my gauge faces my speedometer has been off. Due to they didn't have gauge faces for the turbo yet.

anyone know how many bulbs there are for the speedo and tach? If I am going to change one, I think I will change them all.

No idea how many, but my Technical Advisor said he's going to change all of them. Cuz sure as there are little green apples, another one will go out the next week afterwards.
