A friend of mine has a used cruiser that has been overheating. He took it to a shop and they said it was the fan module and that it'd cost a bit over $500 for parts and labor. Has anyone had this problem or know anything about it? I've helped him find some places that have a fan control module which seems to be the entire fan housing and fans plus a small box I guess is a computer. I looked in my Haynes book and has no luck. Any help would be great. Thanks.

None from me. Sorry.
I know people you have had their entire engine cooling fan unit replaced but not just the module.

Check fuse (fuse box under the hood); also controled by PCM when coolant temp. reaches 212F; could be motor (about $250; after maket fan for about $75 from AutoZone works great).Could be relay at PCM.Good luck. PT4U2C/1KICKNPT

I'm not sure if thyis helps, but on PTE today, this post was there: I just put a cooling fan in a 2001 PT Cruiser today. She was complaining of it overheating while at stops or with the AC on. Since I had the Genesis scanner I thought I would hook it up and and test it by engaging the low and high speed fan relays. It would barely turn on high speed. We got one locally {$155.00} and it is working properly now. But since I have the same year cruiser, I thought I would walk out and listen to mine compared to the new one. Yep mine was going bad also, and I had no idea ! Used the scanner to kick the relays in. Low speed fan did not come on at all, and high speed lacked the airflow compared to the new one.. Pretty bad considering I am a mechanic and never even noticed it. So I have a new one coming. Thought I would tell you all where it is coming from, as they are on sale right now for $95.21 with free shipping and a lifetime warranty. This compared to about $150-190 what they normally cost ! So go out ASAP and listen to yours or even better have somebody with a good scanner test it. Before it goes out and you damage the engine from over heating ! It should pull a lot of air thru with the AC on {don't put your finger in the fan blades} . But to check the low speed fan you will probably need to test it with the scanner... You can get the cooling fan assembly {comes all together} from Direct Automotive Products www.directautomotiveproducts.com/674a050.html
