In September 2004 on the return trip from Cruise the Pig the left front brake on our 2002 PT stuck and would not release. We had it towed to the nearest Chrysler dealer in Cary. Since it was late Saturday afternoon they were closed and they didn't work on it until late on Monday. They could not duplicate the problem and sent us on our way. The problem didn't happen again until a few weeks ago. It would stick, the brakes and wheel would get very hot. It would clear up after setting for a day or so in the garage or just release after driving for a few miles. Never happen when I could get it to a dealer. On Friday the 17th while going to Charlotte to a woodworking show it happened again just as we came into Matthews just outside Charlotte. As we continued on into Charlotte it was really getting bad just as we were going past Heffer Jeep Chrysler on 74. We pulled in and explained the problem and history to the service manager. He said he would have a mechanic available to work on it in 45 minutes. The mechanic checked it and the service manager told me the caliper was defective and had to be replaced along with the almost new ceramic pads I had put on in October and the rotor had to be turned. Of course the brakes are out of warranty now so the bill was $434.09. I ask the service manager were the brakes in warranty in September 2004 and he said they were and told me to get my paperwork from the first problem I had and the paperwork for this repair and call Chrysler Customer Service. I did this on Monday and they agreed to reimburse me for $334.09. So I have sent them the paperwork. NOW lets see if the "check is in the Mail". As a credit to Heffer Jeep Chrysler service department I was surprised that we came in with this problem on a Friday afternoon without an appointment and be repaired and on our way in 3 hours. Of course this put a dent in my tool buying budget but at least [glow=red,2,300]Taupe It[/glow] is happy now.
