It seems my car likes to lock itself whether or not the key is in the ignition, and whether or not the engine is running. Had to have another key made just to open the door. I know I am not alone as I have heard other PT owners say the same thing. No one seems to know the fix however.

Yes Bob this has been tossed around on every PT website/forum you can think of as long as I can remember. It's called the "Phantom Door Lock Syndrome". There's two things to remember if you own a PT Cruiser. 1. Never Ever get out of your car and leave it running with all the windows up and the doors closed. 2. Never Ever get out of your car and leave the key anywhere in the car with all the windows up and the doors closed.

Ahhhhhh so I have been blessed with the dreaded Phantom Lock Syndrome. I have learned my lesson well about leaving the keys in the car. Several times locked out, but it won't happen again.... At least I hope not.

I'll see what my dealer says about your problem when i take my car in again. For some reason i'm getting some gas fumes coming in the the vents at idle and when i turn the fan off for a short time then turn it back on.

I think I have the Phantom Driver's door lock won't lock issue. I can lock it from the fob or sometimes from the button. 90% of the time the button will not lock the doors. Dealer told me that this was an electrical issue that would start at $125.00 to diagnose. It wasn't the button or electronics behind it. I also have the Phanton Sag in the RPM's at idle. This the dealer said was Carbon built up..... (Right......) seems funny it only does it when it's cold out and I have had the intake cleaned (by a mechanic not the dealer for a lot less, there was not any carbon....) I know someone else mentioned it somewhere but couldn't find the thread.
