I have noticed that on the very top of steering wheel that it has become very rough in an area about 2 inches long. The leather looks like it wants to bubble up(for a lack of better words). Not really noticeable but I notice it! Anybody had any issues like this. Will have dealer look at when I take it in to get headliner fixed.

Mine did the same, kinda like a bubble, peeling effect. It was out of warranty so no relief from the dealer. He said he hadn't seen that before and it could be because of some hand lotion or something on your hand that got on the steering wheel then got hot.
I wound up getting a leather lace-on steering wheel cover. Hmmm...leather lace-on sounds more like something from Fredricks of Hollywood.

Yeah I had a similar experience with an IROC Z-28 steering wheel one time. Mines still in warranty so I am going to question it.

Dealer said "No problem" and he would order me a new steering wheel and install it for me!

Mine did the same thing too. I did buy the 5/50,000 extended warranty when I bought mine and they replaced it for free. It's basically from sweat and surface dirt on your hands. Mine was rough at 12:00 and 8:00 positions and I tried to use a leather cleaner and it didn't do much.
Does anybody make a leather wheel cover that matches the stock leather? (on a 2001). I tried 2 from wheelskins and they were either too light or too dark.

Yeah, I am considering putting a cover on mine if I can find a decent one.

WheelSkins makes one and it's real close and you can order them in two colors as well. If you go to the PTCC club store, you can see samples and the size code you need to order. Then you can order it from the PTCC or go directly to WheelSkins and order what you want.

Check your local Autozone store they sell one that is a very close match to the PT factory gray, it has ribs on it, had mine for 4 years and love it
