I saw on another forum where Stage 1 for the '03 turbo cars has increased by a *huge* amount. At www.haynesspeedshop.com, the price for the automatic went from $450 to $660! The manual went from $450 to $640. I'm glad I got mine when I did, and used at that. ($250) They must be making the fuel injectors out of unobtanium now...

Totally Rediculous... as is Chrysler right now.
At one time I was interested in getting Stage 1 but now...No Way! As I've stated in other forums...That's way too much money now to only get 15 Lbs more torque. And if you happen to have the latest 230HP GTs you're paying that much money for 5 more HP and 15 more TORQUE.
I'm a performance minded guy but that is way to expensive now. I mean if you were getting 50 more HP then it would be worth it.
I'd rather spend that much money now for a cowl induction hood for my GT.

I agree the price is way too high, but don't let the -peak- numbers for stage 1 vs stage 0 fool ya. It's a huge difference throughout the rev range in torque, which is what puts you back in the seat. Plus the tranny shifts are so confident.
You may still be able to find stage 1 used somewhere for much less. If you do find it used, jump on it. The fun factor is so evident with this upgrade. Heck, you may even be able to buy stage 1 and resell it for a profit.

More Chrysler insanity. It's a noticable difference. It's just not worth that to me. Besides, to many destroyed auto-trans because of torque and putting in so much foot. If I want that, I crank up the SSR. Chrysler is sending a clear message about what they think of their customers!!

In all honesty, I think the roasted trannies are from folks putting manual boost controllers on their cars and eating up the trannies with the way higher than stage 1 torque that gets generated at low rpms. I have kept my boost PCM controlled since day one of stage 1 with no issues whatsoever. I did add a helper spring to the wastegate actuator for a while but that was to hold a small amount more boost up top. The improved shift quality alone is worth the old cost of stage 1, especially buying used. The new prices are just nuts!
The stage 1 upgrade is well engineered and safe for the car. I know of two folks on the west coast with over 150k on their cars with stage 1 on there for the majority of the life of the car. No problems at all. Of course I also know of someone who had a non-turbo PT whose trannie went out at 51k with no mods. Another non-turbo at 26k. No matter what level of performance you choose, enjoy your PT as it is!
Keep Cruisin'

Don't forget, the price increase is only for the '03 models. You can get Stage 1 for the 05 for $450. Still kind of hih but not to bad. I'll keep an eye out for Stage 1 used on the other forums.

UPDATE! Just lost my tranny the other day. The dealership rebuilt it under warranty. I guess I didn't knock on wood soon enough! At least I'm back on the road again and the tranny is performing flawlessly. It had 65k on it when it went. It was a retainer clip that broke and allowed the 4th gear fluid pressure to drop. Burnt up the clutches. I think Stage 1 may have actually preserved the tranny a bit longer. It firms up the shifts for less slippage and wear. Other than an occasional romp, I tread very lightly on my car. Stage 1 still rules! Brian

Well Brian at least the dealer fixed it under warranty. Just think what it might have cost if you had to pay for it.

Sorry to hear that Brian. The issues have been with 4th gear/overdrive. At least it seems that where the most failures have been reported. I have 32,000 and I'm keepinfg my fingers crossed. I'm not going to invest in Stage1 at $660!! I'll just enjoy what level of performance I have, and continue other mods.

Strange, you'd think the lower gears would die first when you stick your foot in it. Again, I agree that $660 is too much. Brian
