Has any one installed this coil and new wires? Curious if it really increases power at all.
Thanks,
Bob

Bob, If the non-turbo engine has the same coil that the GT's have then changing the coil is a waste of money according to the PTCrew.com gearheads and believe me those guys are real serious performance buffs. The factory coil is just fine.
The weak links that need to be changed as soon as possible on the GT's are the plugs (re-gap to .040-.045) and the wires. The factory plug wires on the GT are JUNK because they don't hold up under the heat from the turbo engine compartment.
I went with the Magnacor 8mm wires and the NGK plugs which are the plugs that the serious HP SRT4 guys use.
Once again I'm speaking from a turbo owner but I would still change plugs and wires. There has been LOTS of documented plug and wire failures on the PT. No need to change the coil though ;D

Tom,
Thanks for letting me know. I'll change wires and plugs and leave the coil alone.

I'll even add that the Screamin' Demon coil has had several heat related failures making it actually a potentially worse coil than the factory coil...

I agree guys. The factory coil is more than adequate; weak link is poor quality wires and "basic" OEM low cost plugs. Any of the aftermarket wires are better. Don't use platinum plugs on turbos. Loy's of tips on PT Cruiser links forums.

Thank you all for the help and information. Is there a good spark plug for the non turbo Crusier? Tom, I know you have a turbo....

I would still go with the NGK even for the non-turbo.

Bob:
Champion double platinum, NKG Iridium, etc.--all have been debated in the forums, and it's really a matter of preference in terms of perception, experience, and price. All perform well according to those who swear by their experience with them. Good luck.
