If some one can help on this I would appreciate it. I purchased a set of the ABS plastic splash guards while we were at MB6 from PT Warehouse and I was wondering if these are ok to paint to match the car? These have the words 'PT CRUISER' molded into them at the bottom. If they can be painted, is there a special treatment or coating that has to be applied proir to painting? I guess I just haven't paid enough attention at the shows to see if anyone has them painted or not.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I've seen people with them painted but don't know if there's any special treatment to it.

Our body shop man - Chip, says when painting plastic you need to put a special coat of adhesive on first so the paint will stick. Richard has a set of painted splash guards - he probably could give you some hints. I bet Frank has some pointers too! ;D

I've paint all kinds of parts that are plastic, I use a product called bulldog you can get it at Wal Mart (ofcourse) but it helps the paint stick to anything automotive. Plus it helps give it that smooth shiny finish. I swear by the stuff.

Mike: I had a body shop paint mine using Chrysler body color, and they not only match perfectly, they look "factory". He primed using adhesion promoter, and painted using the 2 step process for my Tangerine Pearl Coat. He then clear-coated them just as you would any body part. Just use a reputable auto painter and you should be fine.

Believe it or not, I didn't paint mine, someone else did. When the guy painted Richard's, he even painted the back side, a really nice touch.

I'd prime using Krylon "Fusion" paint then overcoat with the Mopar spray touchup paint. You can get Fusion at Wal*Mart.

Fusion is specially made for painting plastics, and it works well. As Wally said, a good base for your final colors.

Thanks everyone! I have some good tips now. I had a paint supply in Gastonia, NC mix up the factory color and put it in aerosol can. I will attempt to paint soon. Also looking at at painting the plastic trim cover around the center dash control area.
