I am considering making a template from the rear cargo deck and constructing a speaker layout on some mdf. I will be making all conections so that the board and components will be removeable (ie the amp will be mounted on underside of board between woofers, all crossover network underneath and quick disconnect wiring).Doing it this way I can remove it quickly to compete in stock PT classes as well as modified stereo competion. What I need to know is ther anything unusual about the PT stereo wiring that would interfere with this. I will be using an amp that can take the speaker level inputs to drive it. Need to know can I just tap into the left and right speakers and run my inputs to the amp.
I will also make a small board so that the components can not be seen from below with the hatch open.
I have made thse types of boards in the past for Camaros so that they fit in the storage area in the hatch and have had very good sucsess with this.
I think that this will provide me with pretty good acoustics with the hatch shut. Not exactly optimum but as close as I can get with out major modifications.
I dont plan on adding amp power to stock speakers I am just going to let the new setup override the stock setup.
Any one ever attempted something like this before or have any sugesstions.
Thanks Dave

Sounds neat. I have no experience in this area but would definitely be interested in seeing and hearing such a set up.

I have 2 12" subs in mine with 2200 watts between them both and a 1600 watt amp in the back as well. They are all being run directly from the head unit and from the battery.
If you aren't using an amp then you can splice it into the rear pillar speakers if they don't need to draw too much power. I used to have a small 10 inch Pioneer in a box that I did that too. i splied it into the rear speaker and it worked fine. Just if you get a bigger speaker it will be better sounding if they were hooked up at the head unit.
Hope this helps. If it turns out good let me know. I might be interested in one for my 2 12s. I had a guy that made a copy of my tray so he could make a fiberglass enlosure for my speakers but he never did it. I hope this looks good for you.

Thanks for the info. What I will be trying to do is splice into the rear speaker connection(Probably at the speaker connection itself) and then run those wires to my amp. Then to the new speakers.
You seem to have a killer set up! I dont think I am going to run that many watts probably only 300 watts or so thru 10" or 12" woofers with crossovers going to the tweeters.Like I had said in my earlier post I have done this with a IROC Z28 that I had. It acted like a sealed box and I ported it also. I hope this set up I am working on goes as well. I just wanted more than what the stock gives me.
And if I get a working template I would gladly snail mail it to any one that would like it.
Also just wanted to say that this is a great message board. I have gotten all positive responses from everyone and I would like to say once agin "Thanks to all!"

My system is pretty good. If money was taken into consideration then its one of the best for the price. I've beat people with $2000 in speakers in their cars. If I meet at a show I'll let you see and hear it.
I'd like to see yours when you finish it. Sounds like its gonna turn out great and look great too.
