I was talking to a few of the folks in Morganton about the issue I'm having with my cruiser. To make a long story short. Its an 02-LE with 40K on it. Last year when I bought it ( previously loved ) I had an issue with it surging when it is cold. You get up to about 55 or 60 and let off the gas and the car lunges or surges. I took it to the Chrysler dealer in Lincolnton where they found nothing wrong but reprogrammed the computer. Everything was fine until about a month ago. Now it is starting the surging again. I have checked out a few sites that seems to point me in the EGR Valve or Spark Plug and Wires. I was going to start with the Wires etc. What are you guys and girls using and what recommendations do you have? I am also in the process of getting the cold air (Open ) filter to replace the stock one.
Thanks, Anne

Hi Anne. Got 61,000 miles on mine and haven't had any issue like that. As a matter of fact, I've had no issues or problems at all. Knock on wood, this so far has been the most trouble free car I've had.

Hi Anne,
More than likely is the EGR valve. Mine does about the same thing. When I'm on the hwy you hear the engine idling up and down, very little but I notice it. Had the computer checked and eventhough the EGR Valve's still working, it has a minor failure. The guy told me PTs are known for the EGR valve to go bad. I have an '02 TE with almost 40k miles.
Hope it helps and le us know what happens.

I bet the EGR is a dealer item. Anyone know if it can be replaced easily or will i need to take it in. I'm fairly handy with tools and cars.

I asked the guy at the dealer who checked my PT's computer that question. His reply was that if I did the work under my hood (intake) I should be able to change the EGR valve myself. I haven't looked into it for lack of time, or is it laziness? ;D but I think you should be able to do it yourself. "I can do it"... say that 3 times to yourself and you will

Well I replaced the spark plugs and wires, egr valve and attempted my new air filter.
All in all the spark plugs and wires went OK. The EGR valve was a little tricky but I finally managed it. Only 3 cuts ( to knuckles and and elbow ) Loss of blood was minimal. Thankfully.....
The Air filter is a different story. I bought one off Ebay and I guess I got what I paid for since it didn't come with the gromets for the sensor and tube. So now I have to find them or something that will work in order to get my new fileter on.
I've decided to call it a day. I have homework todo. Oh and my surging problem is still there but I've been told to run it a bit and let the computer reset. So I'll let you know.

After running it for a few days. Including driving it in to Charlotte on Tuesday. The problem at present with the surging seem to be fixed. I guess I just had to let the computer reset.
