I am working on a sub box for my GT. Still need to make a few changes bu I think it's gonna work out great. Sealed box with a single MB Quart 10" driver. In the "hanging up" position, I lose no cargo space whatsoever. Comments and suggestions welcome. Brian I like it! So how does it sound?

I'll keep everyone updated on the progress, which will probably be in spurts here and there. Brian

Looks good so far Brian !!!! I really like the way its doesn't take away from your cargo space. Keep us updated on your progress.

I've been thinking about your speakerbox. Why only 1 10" driver vs 2 and also are you going to add an Amp to boost power to your box ? It may need a boost to even out the sound.Just a few ideas brian.

A single ten in a properly tuned box is plenty of output for even enthusiastic listening, I just want to unburden the front speakers and add some lower bass in the process. I already have a 2 channel amp that I will be using on the driver, which is a dual voice coil unit. Assuming I end up going with that unit. I'm not trying to win any SPL contests. I am all about accuracy, if I wanted output, I would design a ported box, but they are easier to get wrong. It's harder to screw up a sealed box design. Who knows, if the funds become available, I may get two 10"s. I would have to rethink the box volume though. I think I have plenty of volume for two drivers actually. Brian

depending on the type of subs.. certain brands require very little volume

I think its looking good. i was wondering about the sub but a 10 would probably fit and sound really good in that size. Where you planning to mount the amp? I've got mine mounted behind my rear seat since that was the only place big enough for it because I didn't want to mount it on the box that housed my 2 12s plus with the stroung bass I didn't want to rattle it. Have you thought of covering yet? You'll lots of options there.

If I can, I want to have the box sprayed with an epoxy resin. There is supposedly a company in G'boro (was Roadworx years ago) that uses the spray on their PA speakers...tough stuff and will look good as well.
I'll tuck the amp in a nook somewhere out of the way. Not sure where yet.

I put my Amp under the drivers front seat. Works well except connections need to be 90% not straight so you won't hit them with your heels.Just a idea.

Brian,
Box looks great! I might have to steal the idea for up here in AK. Are you going to fire the subs up or down?

Brian, Box looks great! I might have to steal the idea for up here in AK. Are you going to fire the subs up or down? Jason Depends on how I feel at the moment, you can flip it up or down depending on how you need it. Obviously, there may be one way that sounds better than others and it will probably end up in that position most of the time. Brian

Anybody else interested in one of these boxes? I have learned a lot about how to improve the box and may build several at the same time once the design for the first one is done.
I am going to change the dimensions a bit to allow 2 12s, 2 10s or singles. Initially it will stay as a Sealed box design, so you will need to pick drivers that work in the box volume. I think I have around 1.5 cubic ft , not including driver displacement.
What thinks ye? (ya'll)

I made some changes to the box. I liked the look of the angled sides but I wanted to make sure the structural integrity of the box was there. I trimmed off some of the back so the factory shelf could stand in the "upright partition" position. I also dadoed all the panels together. I will then screw and glue everything together. You can see some of the internal bracing as well in the pics. I have a few more pieces going in to stiffen the box more and to tune the volume in the box once I decide how big I want the inside to be. Currently the box volume is exactly 1.5ft^3. Brian

Here are some more pics...it's coming along. I just have to work out the internals now... Most of the box is in void free plywood except for the baffle board which is 3/4" laminated pine. It will be braced well to stay non resonant but will be much lighter than MDF. Finally got to use my router jig for the circular cutouts. I may still sink the driver into the baffle a bit more. After some measuring and doing some design in software, I am considering a ported design as well as sealed. The amount of volume I have works well for one of the ported options I have. This thing should sound great when I'm done. I'll also be able to build more of these if folks are interested... Brian
