Chrysler created and owned the market, just it give up and give it way.
Kinda sad.
But you gotta give Chevy credit for stepping up!

Check out the pricing of the HHR SS with Turbo and all the goodies...less than 25M. And look at all the after market parts from many of the PT vendors. Even Chevy is producing some. Do anyone REALLY believe that Chrysler is customer focused? I posted about this a week ago. And I love my cruisers!!

The new Cobalt SS is gonna have the same engine. Should be a potent combo to fight the existing SRT-4 cars. Not sure about the new Caliber SRT-4.

And don't forget... Chevy is also producing the 'Panel' version. Something else Chrysler forgot about.

The Dodge Caliber already has 300hp. Don't think the Colbalt would get that much, but hey we never thought that Chrysler would can the PT either, so it might.

If 'stock' is 260HP then you should be able to achieve 300HP as long as you take care of the auto tranny. You'll see that Chevy will offer some sort of power 'upgrade' to reach the 300 level.

Look at the Neon SRT-4 they offer a turbo upgrades and Stage 1-5 upgrades to boost the power to 500hp and above. So I would bet over time these sort of things will be available for the HHR.

I have seen MOPAR Stage 1-3 for the SRT-4 Neons but nothing larger. They have been taken well over 600hp by aftermarket products though.
The Caliber SRT-4 ended up being detuned to 280hp by the time all the wrinkles were worked out. The drivetrain couldn't handle the load for a warranty covered car. The caliber is way heavier than a Cobalt too. But from everything I've read, the Caliber is a potent ride with pretty decent handling as well as power.
The Cobalts are based on a 2.0 Liter engine and are direct injected as opposed to port injection like our cars, so they are a bit better at using the fuel. They should be quite high in the performance category. Chevy offered Staged upgrades for the supercharged Cobalt SS cars so I assume they will do the same for the turbo Cobalt SS cars as well. Maybe they will do the same for the HHR SS since they share an engine.
An HHR SS panel would be cool! Especially with stage upgrades. I still think the PT is a better looking all around vehicle. The regular HHRs had terrible plastic interiors, but I think the SS interiors are pretty nice.

I think I read somewhere that the auto versions of the HHR SS had a lot less power than the 5 speed. The auto tranny can't handle the power. (Sounds familiar to us Auto Turbo PT owners doesn't it?)
At least the Auto Turbo PT engines aren't detuned...

HHRSS Turbo is 220 HP in Automatic trans, 260 HP, 260 ft/lbs torque with the Getrag 5 speed. And complete ground effects, a-pillar turbo boost guage, custom 2- tone seats, 18 chrome wheels, roof, spoiler, pioneer sound, 100,000 mile 5 years all less that 25M. Should do well. Chevy is filling the PT gap.
