I got in my Cruiser Saturday and turned the ignition. No crank? No error codes, lights worked but just no engine turn over. You could hear a slight click from under the hood but no turn over. Checked headlights to make sure that battery was not dead, they were OK. Cycled the key a few times and same results. I ran the auto transmission shifter thru the gears thinking it may be the park interlock sensor. Hooked up portable Jumpstart to battery and it cranked. Really don't think it was the battery though cause if it was that dead my radio, clock and all would have lost memory ..which it didn't.
Any ideas or similar instances? I have it scheduled to go in shop tomorrow morning.
I am kinda leaning toward the sensor that makes sure its in park before it will start.
What ya think?

if you hear a click you hear the starter selonoid arm hitting the inside of the starter, you have a BAD starter.
you can test it out by just taking a wrench or something and tap the selonoid while someone trys to crank it, it should crank right up.

Thanks I'll keep that in mind when I go check on my Cruiser at dealer.

One thing about the Cruiser is that you can unhook the battery and the radio won't lose it's settings just the time.
I just changed my battery a week ago because for about a month my car was slowly taking a bit longer than usual to start and then I noticed that my milage that I reset kept changing to 0 or was lower than it should have been. No power will reset it automactically and I figured the battery must be slowly dying on me. I changed it and now it starts right up quick! All my lights worked fine too but when it cranked they dimmed greatly. You might want to look into getting a new battery if you've had your current one for a while.

Dealer replaced ignition switch on Cruiser. Theres a tech there that has a Cruiser also and his started doing the same thing awhile back. He also noticed that his key fob remote started acting up about the same time.
I guess I am kinda lucky to have a dealer that has a PT enthusiast working for them!

Yep! Fixed it no problems so far. But will keep in mind the post about the bad starter in case it acts up again.

Cruiser had to sit a while Monday and Tuesday went to crank it this mornong and no crank. Hit the key a second time and it fired up. Thinking about the starter is bad or battery. I notice when I have stereo on and headlights and defroster and the stereo is putting out real good the low power light on amp comes on. Everything is grounded well. So this is pointing to battery I think.

Called local dealer and talked to him about the no crank situation. He said that it maybe starter or loose connection thru battery. He said that he hasnt ever had to replace starter on a Cruiser but I guess theres a first time for everything.
Was wondering if there maybe a relation to amp I have put in and this no crank thing. I have amp wired directly to battery but connection is tight,no corrosion.
Will keep posted about resolution.

Hey Rick , with the cruiser at the 5 year old stage now , and more maintenance issues that will creep up as it would for any car once the age and mileage increase , it might be neat to have a forum topic of PT FIX IT or PT REPAIRS or something like that . It would be strictly for problems people have had and to share their solutions and ideas . Then everyone could go to that and look for a topic when they had a problem . What do you think

I like the idea of a new forum addition also!

Sounds good too. I know with mine getting ready to roll over 100,000 miles and having it's 4 year birthday in July we need all the extra help we can get.

I'll work on that when I get back to town. Want it broken up into individual areas of the car or just a general heading of something like, "Repairs, Fixes and Service"?

I think one would be OK , because sometimes it gets difficult to know what area something falls in when your not sure where the problem is . That way someone would not put their topic under the wrong forum . What does everyone else think ?
